A dream come true - BIBA is back! |
|
Wednesday, 01 September 2010 22:41 |
|
Tonight was the Press Soiree for the relaunch of BIBA. Yes BIBA, we have dreamed about this day for many years and tonight, for me, it has come true.
From a mail order company in the early sixties, to a global fashion phenomenon of the early seventies, Barbara Hulanicki's Biba was a store like no other. Fashion has mourned its loss since BIBA closed its doors in 1975. Until now... It's 2010 and Biba is back. Exclusively at House of Fraser, the newly relaunched BIBA has taken the ethos of original Biba and reworked it for the fashion savvy of today, like the brand's face - Brit model-of-the-moment Daisy Lowe.
It was a true honour to meet and speak with Barbara Hulanicki at Brighton Fashion Week earlier in the summer, when I can remember what sunshine was! She is a true legend and Richard, Senior Publicist confirmed that ‘Barbara has given her ultimate blessing to the new collection’.
I know you must be wondering what the new collection is like, have the design team really managed to capture the true BIBA essence of the 60’s and 70’s and reform the brand into a modern day version of what once used to be?
The answer is absof**kinglootely! to put it bluntly.
As I walked into the event doors, you couldn’t help but notice the 4ft shiny gold metal BIBA sculpture, exceedingly soon afterwards, there was the showroom in a decadent setting to suit the collection perfectly.
Champagne, canapés were served as everyone mingled and checked out the opulent new range soon to hit the House of Fraser stores in just 8 days.
The new BIBA wardrobe has many unique pieces that ooze confidence and femininity, with flattering cuts and styles of the original collections, once again bringing accessible fashion with attitude to suit women of all ages. The new collection encapsulates a vintage feel with lots of embellishment, luxurious fabrics and unique and beautiful prints.
From the Feather Print Maxi Dress, Soft Metals Print Bell Sleeve Shift Dress, Tuxedo Double Breasted Jacket, Drape Ruffle Coatigan to the Vintage Embellished Maxi Dress, the Embellished Trapeze Waistcoat, Maxifit and Flare Faux Fur Coat, I was in Sartorial heaven, and that’s just to mention a few of the pieces!
Luckily for you, each piece is priced individually and very fairly. I cannot wait to get my hands on the Embellished Trapeze Waistcoat, Im literally dizzy thinking about it becoming one of my London Fashion Week outfit pieces!
Doubly lucky for you, House of Fraser will be hosting a public event at their Oxford Street store to showcase the new Boutique and none other than Daisy Lowe will be there to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out in Style with you! Wednesday 8th Septemeber, add it to your calendar, it’s a must! I’ll see you there, purse to the ready!

P.S - There was an abundence of magnificent and beautiful floral displays, courtesy of the wonderful Melissa Riva Flowers. I HIGHLY recommend them next time you buy flowers or have a special occassion. http://www.melissariva.co.uk |

It’s another sad farewell to an industry legend as Corrine Day died peacefully at home on the 28th August after a long illness, aged just 48.
Corrine, international glamour model turned photographer was most famous for discovering Kate Moss waaaay back in the early 90’s and creating the "waif" look that changed British fashion, she soon became one of the world’s most influential photographers. Corinne will always be remembered for her iconic heroin, pop culture, chic images that we all hunted the news stands for within The Face magazine and her stunning work for British, Italian and Japanese Vogue.
RIP Corrine Day.

What do I wear?
The trick is to dress for next season, not this one so take zero notice of anything you find in the
glossies as ‘item of the week’ You don’t need to be dripping in Chanel or have the latest Mulberry on your arm, just check out next seasons key trends and choose a statement piece to plan your outfits around. Whether it be the Cape, the Shearling Jacket or the new season terrific trousers. Remember, minimalism is key for next season.

Your emergency flats and a bottle of water. Business cards, a notepad with pen and a fully
charged camera. Don’t forget your Starbucks rewards card and your taste London card for a delicious and frugally pleasing lunch or dinner!
How do I wear my Make-up?
Now is the time to unleash your Alter Ego! Consult your local department store beauty counter favourite
and blag yourself a free makeup over. MAC at Selfridges is the best in town by far.
What about my hair?
In an ideal world, we would all head over to Taylor Taylor for a pre-fashion week style consultation, if you have the dollar, take full advantage of their expert knowledge and talent in their ultra chic boutique salons. Book an appointment

Fashion Week Shows & Presentations
You should have already started applying for your Fashion Week show and presentation invitations but if you haven’t, here is the schedule and contacts for your applications – don’t waste
any more precious time and don’t even think about blagging a front row seat, they are more sacred than the holy grail.
http://www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/catwalkschedule_new.aspx
A few things to remember:
- Scope out the nearest coffee shops for much needed caffeine injections or a email catch up between shows.
- Make friends with the people that help you to your assigned seat, if there are empty seats further forward, these people hold your golden ticket!
- I know its totally ponsey but you’ll have to prepare yourself for more air-kissing and ‘darlings’ than you
can handle in a lifetime. Just go along with it to be polite, its expected!
- Don’t forget to leave without your showbag, this is wear all the information about all the items you have seen on
the catwalk is kept for a fully knowledgeable write up post show.
- Don’t be too disappointed if you cannot get into the show or presentation you were hoping too, a lot of them are now streamed live so pitch up at your local coffee shop with your friends and watch it together over a skinny latte!
- Get plenty of rest, there is nothing like the chaos of Fashion Week, double that with all the evening events
and parties and you’ll get an over tired, stressed and emotional wreck counting
the hours until fashion week is over – Enjoy and remain your stylish best!

I heart Love Is Boutique....... |
|
Saturday, 28 August 2010 13:34 |
Love Is Boutique is a Vintage shop in the heart of the Royal Borough of Tunbridge Wells, selling a range of vintage clothing, pre-loved and brand new clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories across the UK. Not to mention exclusive jewellery sourced from up and coming designers, specialising in one off and vintage pieces to suit all budgets. Yesterday I spent the day with the owner, Paula Fry a ball breaking ex city girl turned boutique owner, pretty much the sassiest, well dressed and astute business women I have ever had the pleasure to meet and work with.
Predominantly I was there to talk business as next month, there is a very special Magpies Fabulous Vintage Fair taking place to showcase the beautiful items stocked within the quirky, quaint and fabulously chic 4 storey town house which is now home to Love Is Boutique and I have been helping my good friends Paula and Lynne with the organising. The evening itself, scheduled on Wednesday 15th September at The Spa Hotel is proving to be popular with the local fashionista's and wow do we have a great night planned for any of you lovelies who want to come down and take advtantage of the Exclusive stalls, complimentary stylists giving you wardrobe advice and showroom models giving you idea's on how to pieces the items together in the ultimate way to make you look and feel a million dollars. For a bargain price of a tiny £8 you'll also get a welcome drink and leaving goody bag. If you havent got your ticket yet - click here before its too late!
Another reason I took myself town to the boutique was to get first glance at the pieces due to hit the online market, yes that's right. Love is Boutique will be retailing online, launching this very Wednesday - there are some amazing bits, I kid you not! If you don't believe me, speak to Lynne who will be managing the online sales, we were practically melting at some of the goods we were itching to take home!
So, there I was, in store, having the grand tour and drooling over the purchases I was dying to make, especially whilst the 1/3 off sale was on and I just couldnt resist a little dolly dress up session. It was alot of fun! I left with cute vintage Patent Heels and a gorgeous summer denim dress for the bargain price of £24! I Love Love Is Boutique!

Topshop Skeepskin gets all GLAM! |
|
Thursday, 26 August 2010 12:13 |
|
What a blast we had yesterday! Some of the GLAM Media publishers got together to play dress-up with the latest sheepskin coats and jackets right there on the highstreet available at Topshop.
Our lovely Charlotte at GLAM (aka StyleCartel) organised a wonderful morning at the GLAM headquarters for 6 of us fashionista bloggers to fool around on the roof in our lovely Topshop samples. There was just one problem, we ALL wanted to keep the items we were modelling for the photoshoot, nicely captured by Adrian Morales at Snappylifestyle. It was Gilet and flying jacket galore. The shoot, styled by Joel at Dash Empire started as any usual shoot would by fitting the models. I was ecstatic to be sporting a tan flying jacket lined with the softest sheepskin your skin could be treated to on a cold winters day. Next I took position on the streets of London in the black, sheepskin lined Suede Gilet - LOVE LOVE LOVE. I cannot wait to get to Topshop to purchase the seasons ultimate staple jacket! All in all a fantastic morning, wonderful to spend time with my fellow bloggers - swapping tips and advice about the impending Fashion Week before the torential rain sweeped across the capital!
More photo's coming soon I promise but for now, here is a sneeky preview!
Thanks to Charlotte and the GLAM team for a fabulous day!

As we all know, Fashion and Music go hand in hand, so when invited to The Levi Store on Regent Street for a private gig with The Brute Chorus and Lissie, I couldnt resist. Last night we were treated to a whopping 20% discount off any purchase in store, a free bar, question and answer session with both acts and a fantastic set at the front of the store. It was fabulous. There was only 100 or so people so it felt small and intimate and the guys from The Brute Chorus were lovely, stopping to talk to all their fans and give advice and words of wisdom to my friend Rob, an asipring artist soon to form his own band.
I must admit, I hadnt heard much of either acts work before but just loved their energy, passion and rock and roll jamming. As I stood front of stage, I couldnt help imagine their tracks backing a fashion show production, perhaps one day soon, we'll here them as the models strut their stuff down the catwalk at London Fashion Week?!

Boutique by Jaeger - the winner's crowned! |
|
Wednesday, 18 August 2010 12:39 |
|
Last night Boutique by Jaeger had their official press launch at the pop up store, resident in Carnaby Street for at least six months. The event was like a fashion blogger soup, there was lots of us swimming around swooning over the new collection, chatting to the hot Jaeger Grand Fromage himself, Stuart Stockdale (official title, Design Director) and asking him where his inspirations had come from, which were his favourite pieces and learning more about the illustrations decorating the shop walls and promotional materials. How they would play a part in future designs? you'll be pleased to know, T-shirts are in the making!
As you know, the reason why we were all there was to crown the winner of the Boutique by Jaeger Style Challenge. After a glass of pink champers and a cupcake or two by the amazing LOLA's bakery, and delicious Jaeger logo chocolates by the Vintage Patisserie, Stuart Stockdale took centre stage and announced.
The results...

Congratulations to James at Style Noir!
We were thrilled to be crowned second place winners, especially as we were up against some real talent and big names in the industry!
Now, do you want to know what my favourite pieces from the latest collection are?

For all the pictures from the evening, check them out on the facebook page by clicking here |

Ready, Set, GO! The Jaeger Style Challenge |
|
Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:41 |
|
Have you seen the new Boutique by Jaeger collection? How about the exclusive pop-up shop just off Carnaby Street open for just 6 short months?
Today, I was lucky enough to get a sneaky peek at both. I was up for the blogging Jaeger Boutique style challenge. 11:00 at The Regent Street store press office, along with my gorgeous model Demi, we were introduced to the team and to the collection. One word. WOW.
We had 30 minutes to rifle, experiment and select items to put together one look of our choice to present to the judging panel for the ultimate accolade ‘blogger with the best styled look’ presented by Stuart Stockdale, Jaeger design director. The winner will also have an opportunity to interview the man himself and a chance to inspire a piece for the forthcoming boutique collection, in collaboration with Jaeger’s design team.
I got stuck right into rummaging through the racks, it was hard not to want to style at least ten looks and even harder to finally chose ‘that one’ that I would dress my model in to present to the judges. Everything was desirable and everything was wearable. So many key pieces inspired by A/W10 trends. The Lurex and jersey knits, the Teddy Bear Coat, the Ingénue look, the Dominatrix, the Traveler, the Seductress. All full of must have daywear. I loved the way the collection boasts a 60’s vibe and an edgy contemporary rock and roll chic theme, just like Carnaby Street past and present.
Instantly, as soon as the style challenge began, I was drawn to the luxury velvet jumpsuit, it suited Demi’s gorgeous hourglass figure to a T, but unfortunately without a selection of accessories to hand to compliment the key piece, I decided to move ahead with choice numero deux. Traveler Grandeur! From head to toe, I teamed a sheer nude soft fitted shirt underneath an irresistible faux fur jacket, a beautiful scarf draped around the neck and a exquisitely hot pair of soft left shorts. Accessorised with a patent and bronze studded skinny belt and woolen trimmed and suede shoe boots. With chunky socks, an oversized quilted leather bag and a chunky statement necklace, this look would not only win over Jaeger, but probably the world!!!
It was a really fun time in the press office and I think although it was really tough choosing between all the beautiful pieces we had on offer, and having to resist temptations from cruising the 4 floors of fabulousness to find those finishing accessories, we have a strong, bold, striking and confident…. and maybe even winning outfit!
Keep yourself posted to the Jaeger Boutique collection and all the latest news from the pop-up store here…..

Join the Gelish Revolution! |
|

Hands up those of you who take pride in having perfectly manicured digits? We have all been there and done the WAG-a-like extensions worthy of scratching out the eyes of any potential muggers on the way home from the local nightclub. Just as the fad evolved and us 20 somethings didn’t have the time or patience to wait in queue at the local nail bar to have our infils done as we screeched with pain as our already paper thin and sensitve nails were filled down once again, new products were launched in the US of A. The WAG revolution could soon be over.
Sally Hansen did us proud with her range of acrylic strong polishes and there were soon many other close match products for us to choose from.
I gave up on my monthly trip to my local beautican a while back as I never found anything that would last the duration between appointments and just hate to see chipped, cracked or flakey nails, it’s a real bug-bear and so tempting to sit on a train scratching the residue polish off with my teeth just so that at least with no polish on at all, my nails look even and ready to be painted by moi the next morning enroute to work.
Luckily for me I have recently come across a new product which is taking the UK by storm and does everything it says on the bottle!
It’s now been in the UK for about 4 months, it is the new generation of nail system, unlike other system on the market.
Gelish by Nail Harmony explains ‘it looks like a polish when applied but has the staying power of a Gel and lasts for approx 3 weeks. Unlike other systems which are cured with UV light, this can be cured with LED and it only takes 30secs per layer unlike the other systems which take 2 minutes and then only 15 minutes to soak off when you’re ready for a change. So with a quarter of the time and the staying power not to mention the amazing 48 dazzling colours, its time we joined the Gelish revolution!

I can highly recommend my nail technican. Karen Segal at Harmony, contact her if you need to beautify your hands!

I heart Henry Holland - thanks to Kings! |
|
Saturday, 31 July 2010 10:46 |
|
Thursday evening was an evening of epic excitement. I was invited to the launch soiree for KINGS, the new men's range for the fashionably groomed. Obviously, not an event I would usually attend as the product is not one that I or us girls would generally purchase for ourselves or use (other than when we cheekily borrow our boyfriends razor for a quick trim :-) .... you know we all do it!) but the reason I decided to attend was three fold.
1. The Invitation was personally sent by the most talented stylist in the country who currently works with VOGUE, so of course, I was dying to finally meet her.
2. I was given a plus 2 which meant it would double up as a great night out with my girls Melanie and Lizzy, in one of our favourite haunts, Kettners Champagne Bar.
3. Henry Holland, my absolute idol was rocking the DJ set.
The event itself was fabulously put together, like I said it was a fabulous venue, very old school chic and the guest included magazine editors, film producers, models, actresses and PR representatives which made for alot of interesting conversation as we sipped our champagne and nibbled the canapes! The models who were presenting the new KINGS products were possibly the most irresistibly stunningly beautiful human beings i have ever come across. I couldn't help but to listen to everything they had to say about the new range, knowing full well as great as it was, I probably wont be buying it other than at xmas for dad or something!
Henry Holland, who I was very much looking forward to meeting after I randomly bumped into him in Shoreditch the night before arrived just as we were heading outside for air so I was lucky enough to have 10 mins outside of Kettners chatting to him about life, the night ahead and basically stand and swoon for a while. It was magical! His set was awesome, but then I am totally biased. Now I am just head over heels excited to bump into him again throughout London Fashion Week - just 48 days to go!

TIGI Catwalk Collection Press Launch |
|
Friday, 30 July 2010 14:36 |
|
Wednesday evening saw the launch party of the new product line by Tigi - the Catwalk Collection. The event was held at LondoNewcastle Project Space in Shoreditch and attended by the fabulous creative team, fashion designers, writers, bloggers and PR people. A room buzzing with exceptional talent and wine and beer on tap. All I could think was how bad my hair looked that day - typical! Just what you need when in company with the countries most talented hair specialists!
We were introduced to the Catwalk Sleek Mystique straight collection in collaboration with none other than the hottest designer on the scene at the moment Christopher Kane. Christopher's Fashion Week A/W10 presentations will surely rock the runway with long lustrous straight locks. I simply cannot wait!
I was delighted to meet yet more amazing people including Heath Grout, The UK Creative Director for TIGI, he was a genuinely lovely guy who is very passionate about his work. A very interesting man. I also met a lovely designer who has an amazing collection of Luxury Leather Goods, of course she had one of her signature clutches under her arm which caught my eye like diamonds to a magpie. Check out her stuff right here ..... RENEE CASCARINA
I felt compelled to try the products we were given, i mean, hell - who is going to blog about something unless they truly believe it's worthy of a recommendation? My mum sampled the 'Your highness Root Boost Spray Mousse' and her verdict was the product lifted her fine hair perfectly and smelled great! I used 'Curlesque Curls Rock Amplifier' ahead of my night out in company of Henry Holland. The curls actually stayed in ALL NIGHT LONG, which for my hair is an acheivement in itself. I didnt have to use shine spray or hairspray either - amazing! I havent yet tried the 'Sleek Mystique Fast Fix Style Prep' but I live in hope that it will transform my dull damaged locks into hair good enough to grace the pages of the Catwalk Collection A/W2010 Lookbook!
